City Water Systems
· Early settlers obtained water for domestic purposes through privately-owned wells
· Later public wells dug
· Well water pumped into reservoirs and distributed into mains
· Water distributed through pipes
· As population and/or pollution increases, deeper wells need to be sunk
· In response to increased pollution, People created cisterns and drew water from springs
· Water impounded from rivers, aqueducts built to transport water from reservoirs to city
· Water collection systems include many reservoirs and controlled lakes with large storage capacities
